In this letter to his congregation, minister Charles Wiggers announced that he and his family supported public education and would continue to support public schools even in the most difficult of times. He also stated that he was unequivocally opposed to the use of church facilities for private education when the purpose of such use was contrary to the message of the gospel, but also that he would not use his authority as minister to block his congregation from setting up private education if he could not convince them of his position from a moral standpoint.
