The Peace of Desmond Tutu and Martin Luther King Jr.
Posted on March 27, 2015 by PLT Staff
Recording of a lecture given by Johnny Hill at the Spring Institute for Lived Theology 2008 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Hill discusses the alternative visions of peace that Martin Luther King Jr. and Desmond Tutu offer in the shadow of empire. He shares their contributions to a philosophy of life for Christians and non-Christians that is peaceable within empire.
Excerpt: “What is compelling about the thought and witness of King and Tutu is that they offer to us a unique way of understanding the languages of peace, how it is worked out within particular historical and social circumstances, while avoiding the temptation of a universality that can be appropriated for all people in all places, and at all times.”
