Reborn to a Living Hope: Personal Experience and Political Consciousness (transcript)

Posted on May 12, 2015 by PLT Staff

Paper given by Jürgen Moltmann at the Spring Institute for Lived Theology 2005 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Moltmann uses his experiences to discuss theology and personal faith. From his experiences in World War II, time in seminary and work as a pastor, professor and lecturer, Moltmann reflects on theological passion and personal conviction.

Excerpt: “I had not the intention to become a pastor because I had not known any pastor in my life. There were only the teachers around me—my father, my grandfather—but no pastors. But I studied then theology to find out the truth. So my theological virtue was theological curiosity. It’s true, because everything was fabulously new for me—the Bible, the Christian tradition, was all new. And so I had a fresh approach to the tradition.”
