Part of the Body: Reflections on Risks and Responsibilities in the Discipline of Lived Theology

Recording of a lecture presented by Peter Slade at the Spring Institute for Lived Theology 2011 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Slade considers the place of the lived theologian and shares his thoughts on writing a theological narrative based on his ethnographic research of religious communities. The lecture begins at the 4:25 minute mark.

Excerpt: “From my perspective, to engage in the process of writing lived theology, a worldly carnal theology in a worldly carnal world means an inescapable engagement with the worldly carnal church. This place of the lived theologian as part of the body, the body of Christ, is tricky and uncomfortable because it means an openness to being changed, but it also means accepting the responsibility that you will change others. It may, as Charles suggested yesterday, seem to involve betrayal. But the betrayer cannot escape the betrayed. Indeed, we need to be reconciled to those we have betrayed.”
