Sandtown Habitat for Humanity
Posted on May 12, 2015 by PLT Staff
Lecture given by LaVerne and Al Stokes at the first meeting of the Lived Theology and Community Building Workgroup in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Stokes speak about Sandtown Habitat for Humanity, a housing program they have fostered in their hometown of west Baltimore. They also discuss other ministries in Sandtown, such as the New Song Community Learning Center and Voices of Hope.
Excerpt: “As I look back now, we actually had drawings—there were a lot of children in the church—and at one point the kids drew what they thought their neighborhood should look like. And I tell you we still have those hand drawings today, and after ten years their drawings are actually becoming a reality. I mean the things that they drew are becoming a reality.”
