Hospitality and Justice in the Life of John M Perkins
Posted on March 27, 2015 by PLT Staff
Recording of a lecture given by Mark Gornik at the Spring Institute for Lived Theology 2009 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Gornik argues that John Perkins’ life and work can be used as a theological resource for the church today. He focuses on justice and hospitality in Perkins’ life and view of the church.
Excerpt: “As John Perkins has written, if we are going to share in Christ’s mission we must also share in his suffering. We cannot follow Christ without taking up our crosses. This is a leadership that he had exemplified, and without that embodying of the story of Christ we would not have those of us who exemplify the story, we would not have voice of Calvary, we would not have Mendenhall, we would not have those of us in this hall or across the country that have been influenced by John Perkins. He took up the cross.”
