Do We Need a New Morality? Christian Faith and Bioethics
Posted on May 7, 2015 by PLT Staff
Lecture given by Wolfgang Huber at a Bioethics Seminar at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. Huber tackles the moral questions raised by embryonic stem cell research and pre-implantation diagnosis. In particular, he examines the ethics of artificial reproduction and attempts to discover where human dignity begins. For a listing of all Occasional Lectures, click here.
Excerpt: “When does a human being become a human being? We can look at the same question from another perspective—namely the possible justification of the use of embryos for research purposes. Researchers justify using embryo cells in pursuit of ‘ethically highly qualified medical research.’ The freedom to do research is seen as a legally protected right which has such high value that it can justify even the restriction of human dignity or at least the gradation of the protection of life.”
