The Summer Internship in Lived Theology -The Project on Lived Theology

The Summer Internship in Lived Theology is an immersion program designed to complement the numerous existing urban and rural service immersion programs by offering a unique opportunity to think and write theologically on faith in service to others.

Specifically the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship offers undergraduates an opportunity to conduct research, think, and write theologically on questions related to the social repercussions of theological commitments. Past fellowship recipients have explored diverse themes, such as Religion and Civil Rights; Community Development and Organizing; Immigration Reform; Environmental Sustainability and Farming; and Religion, Mental Health, and the Arts.

Camille Loomis (Col ’14) worked with The Haven, a day shelter in Charlottesville for homeless and very poor folks.

Claire Hitchins (Col ’13) worked to promote social and environmental justice with Shalom Farms, a regional food security and community development project of the United Methodist Urban Ministries of Richmond.

Erik Nelson (Col ’14) volunteered in Kenya constructing houses.

Kate Farrell (Col ’14) Catholic Worker Farm outside of London to study ways in which theology is practiced through social activism.

Reilly O’Hara (Col ’14) worked with both the School for Conversion and Urban Hope in Durham, North Carolina.

Claire Constance (Col '16) worked in Limpopo, South Africa, with an interdisciplinary team of graduate and undergraduate students training community health workers in child development assessment and intervention.

Melina Rapazzini (Col '16) worked with New Covenant Hope Church in Oakland to develop a reading, art, and gardening program for inner city refugee children.
