Eugene McCarraher

Assistant Professor of Humanities and History (Villanova University). Ph.D. (Rutgers University).

Eugene McCarraher is an assistant professor of humanities and history at Villanova University. His research interests are in American cultural and intellectual history, especially in the areas of economic and religious culture. He is the author of Christian Critics: Religion and the Impasse in Modern American Social Thought (Cornell University Press, 2000), a study of liberal Protestant and Roman Catholic social thought and cultural criticism in the 20th century. He is currently at work on a cultural history of corporate capitalism, tentatively entitled The Enchantments of Mammon: Corporate Capitalism and the American Moral Imagination. In addition to scholarly articles, he has written essays and reviews for Commonweal, In These Times, and Raritan. He has received grants from The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Lilly Foundation, the Louisville Center for the Study of American Religion, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
